The Battle of Segwan was between a small contingent of the Minimoto clan led by Takashi Akira and a combined force of Horse Lords and the Shiho. It was during this battle that Takashi Akira was slain, making this tiny conflict the pivotal event in the Takashi ascension.
Takashi Akira was always groomed to be Takashi Hida's successor. The Takashi daimyo took the death of his eldest son particularly hard. While there was likely a path to peace between Eagle and Dragon should some significant reparation be paid, the cost proved unbearable for the Shiho. Thus, the road to vengeance against all involved in the Battle of Segwan began.
Hida's revenge has taken its toll on all the participants of Segwan. The Horse Lords of Ataka had their steeds poisoned by the Kagekaze Zoku, the Shiho were almost completely destroyed, and the Minimoto slowly starve in their mountain strongholds. As revenge schemes go, Hida's was spectacularly successful.
